We are excited to announce the launch of the Just People project, a groundbreaking initiative with a vision for a more inclusive and equitable future in the world of sports. This project, made possible through the generous support of the European Union's Erasmus+ Program, represents a significant stride towards combating discrimination against LGBTIQ+ individuals in the realm of athletics.
Our Vision
The core vision of the Just People project is to address the prevailing challenges faced by the LGBTIQ+ community in the sporting world. It brings together a diverse array of associations and partners from across Europe, uniting for a common cause: to promote tolerance, inclusivity, and equality in sports. Our goal is to create an environment where every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation, feels genuinely welcome and respected.
The Inaugural Steps
Our journey commences with a dynamic Kick-off meeting, set to take place online on September 23, 2022. This inaugural event will see the participation of various associations, including ASD Sparta Pugilato, Asociația Tinerilor cu Inițiativă Civică, Club Atlético de Queluz, and Club de Lluta Olímpica La Mina, all contributing to the foundation of the Just People project.
During the Kick-off meeting, we will set the stage for the project by:
Raising Awareness: Delving into the discrimination and challenges faced by LGBTIQ+ individuals in sports, emphasizing the need for a transformative shift.
Establishing Objectives: The meeting will highlight the core objectives of the project, including the promotion of sports as an educational tool for human rights education and social inclusion.
Strategizing: We will develop comprehensive strategies for local meetings, which each association will promote, and lay the groundwork for the Big Transnational Meeting set to take place in Rome in 2023.
Envisioning a More Inclusive Tomorrow
The Just People project is perfectly aligned with the goals set forth in the 'European Union Work Plan for Sport 2021-2024.' Our commitment is to create a future where sports are characterized by a safe and respectful environment, where harassment, abuse, and discrimination are actively prevented. We also recognize sports' potential to nurture personal, social, and learning skills, fostering a culture of tolerance, solidarity, and inclusion.
Looking Ahead
The Just People project is more than a mere concept; it's a commitment to a brighter and more inclusive future. In the months to come, we will diligently work toward our objectives and create valuable resources to combat discrimination in sports. Anticipate the unveiling of a comprehensive range of deliverables, including an informative website, a dynamic advocacy campaign aimed at raising public awareness, a policy paper that outlines our values and official stance, as well as practical guides that promote equality and inclusion.
Join Us in Shaping the Future
We extend an invitation to individuals, sports organizations, and advocates from all walks of life to join us on this journey towards a more inclusive sporting world. Keep a close watch on our website to stay informed about our ongoing progress. Together, we can create a sports environment that truly welcomes and respects all individuals, irrespective of their sexual orientation.
The Just People project embodies the power of collaboration, education, and advocacy. Let's stand together and make a significant difference in the world of sports. Together, we can build a more inclusive future that empowers and celebrates diversity.
