abstract
In recent decades, legislative developments, case law and policy initiatives have improved many people's lives and helped us build equal and welcoming societies, including for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ). In 2015, the Commission presented the "List of actions to promote LGBTI equality", the first policy framework to specifically combat discrimination against LGBTI people. Despite this, recent research shows that even when there is greater social acceptance and support for equal rights, this commitment does not always translate into a clear improvement in the lives of LGBTIQ people. In a 2019 survey, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) found that discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender/identity/expression is rising in the EU. If in 2012 37% of LGBT people declared themselves discriminated against, in 2019, the percentage increases by 6 points to 43%.
This is why JP project aims to
- Encourage sports educators to understand the importance of sport as a tool in education for human rights, diversity and social inclusion.
- Raise awareness of the dynamics of oppression and discrimination experienced by the LGBTIQ+ community in sports.
- Revelop educational methods and improve existing good practices to build a typical mentality representing equality in sport and through sport.
- Promote a positive approach to the awareness of one's own body and that of others in sport and through sport.
